A NEW COLLECTION OF ONLINE MAGAZINES FOR B1 and B1+!

The topics covered are diverse and provide an opportunity to explore global issues related to the objectives and skills outlined in the curriculum, particularly in French, environmental studies, social studies, science, personal development, career education, and health.

Accessible and engaging magazines!

The collection is based on 15 global issues, each of which will have two versions:

a B1 (beginner) version and a B1+ (advanced) version, for a total of 30 magazines.

At the end of each issue, there is a “Ton Avenir” box. Each issue features a job or profession related to the issue's theme.

Differentiation

The texts in the B1 (beginner) version are shorter and simplified.

The vocabulary is familiar and consistent across both versions, allowing students using different versions to discuss the same topic.

Focused on four targets:

First target: oral development and interaction

To achieve this, we planned:

  • discussions before and after reading each text.

These discussions are presented in a slideshow. All it takes is a single click!

Second target: vocabulary development, reading four accessible texts, and learning activities

To achieve this, we planned:

  • a shared, familiar, and context-based vocabulary for both reading levels;
  • a glossary;
  • a worksheet to expand and enrich vocabulary;
  • discussions to promote oral interaction.

All of this is explained in a slideshow.

Third target: reading and comprehension strategies

To achieve this, we planned:

  • 4 learning worksheets, one per text (vocabulary, response to the text, comprehension strategy, critical thinking);
  • questions and discussions to deepen comprehension.

All of this is explained in a slideshow.

Fourth target: development of critical thinking (oral interaction)

To achieve this, we planned:

  • a reflection and interaction question (Vise la cible) at the end of each text;
  • an action-oriented situation (Ton défi) to provide a purpose for reading.

All of this is accompanied by a slideshow to support learning and motivation.

Express 9e
EXPRESS 9e is a program with two principal themes covering six units. In this program, students learn to express themselves about who they are as adolescents and as Canadians. Units 1 and 2 go into aspects of adolescent life that make them unique—their knowledge of the world around them and their competence as members of a technological society. Units 3 and 5 consider the adolescents themselves—their likes and dislikes, their daily lives and their capacity to be contributing members of society. Units 4 and 6 consider the Canadian mosaic that identifies who we are as Canadians. These units discuss people who hail from different countries, and whose contributions make a stronger Canada, and Canadian art, the expression of the Canadian way of life.

When students have completed the program, they will have had an opportunity to identify themselves in a second language as members of a modern Canadian society.
